We cut down many sections and sometimes we even had to delete whole sections because these shots were too long and we still have shots to film to introduce the other character. So what we had to do was either speed up really long sections or just cut it down, it is a bit hard to judge at the moment because we still need sections of another girl to go in between these sections so we can only predict what we are going to do. So we intended to have a close up of the alarm clock at the beginning and then zoom out to Ellie in bed but because this would be too long we decided to have a shot of her turning off the alarm then falling out of bed, by her falling out of bed we have learnt about her personality and how she can be a bit clumsy we hope by having this here the audience will start to learn what she is like as a character.
Below is a screen shot where we are abouts to speed up the section of Ellie falling over her cover as she stands up this is because the clips was too long yet too important to cut so we decided to speed it up to see what it looks like. To speed a clip up we have to click on the section we want to speed up with the arrow then go to modify and then speed the clip will be at 100% speed which is the normal rate you then can either chose to make the clip slower by typing in a percent under 100 or type in a higher amount which will make the clip be faster. For this particular clip we decided to make it to 150% because once we looked at it, it still looks very professional because sometimes if you speed up a clip it can look very jumpy and unprofessional so we had to find the right speed in order to avoid this from happening. After we had chosen this speed we felt that now this part was very good and would need no more tweaking because it is a vital part of the opening sequence and does not take up as much time as it did before. This is a hand technique to know for the future when editing because now we can alter the speed of which a clip can run so when we film next we can now start to think about filming clips in which we will speed up.
Below is a screen shot of how we made the screen look normal because to start with the video was coming up too big in the top right corner and the clips we becoming distorted and looked out of shape. So to avoid this and make it look normal we have to then edit the size of the frame we moved it to around 56 so that it looked good in the corner and so that it was normal looking. As you can see in the left of the screen shot that is where all of our clips are that we filmed and we just have to drag and drop in order to put it into the actual film section. In the actually film section where you can edit clips you can see the first two sections are where our clip is but on the third that is where our backing track is and we put it a little further from the beginning because like we researched we found out that the music kicks in after a few shots have happened so we have used this technique here. And this audio is good and works perfectly fine in Final Cut and now that we have it there we no longer need to worry about that as it will always be there and we can just move it along if we need to so that some of the clips are in time to the music.
Below In this screen shot we see a clip being rendered you have to do this after you have altered a clip, for example if you were to edit the speed of a clip or add an effect to it then after doing this you will have to render the clip so then it can be a part of the clip as a whole. After you have rendered a clip you are then able to view its new state so then you can judge whether you still want it like this or not but if we don't like how it turns out then we would just undo and we would get the clip we previously had before we rendered it. Sometimes it can get annoying when we keep having to render clips because sometimes we forget to until we go to view it but we have got used to it now and isn't any trouble.
Overall i am pleased with how our clip is looking because it looks professional and with the music it seems like an actual Rom-Com opening. I also spent a lot of time on Final cut today which means my skills are only getting better so as the editing process continues so will my skills using the programme. We still need to film some more yet and if we can get it done properly then we can think about how we are going to add the titles. As i have researched titles i already have knowledge on how they are usually done in an opening sequence so this will be a benefit when we come to make our titles for our film. Today we have got a lot done as we have now editied almost all of Jessica's section which is good because we still have plenty of time left on our opening sequence which means we can spend more time editing therefore making it the best it can be.
